World Expo

Overview

In 2010 Shanghai will host the biggest World Expo in the history of world expositions.  Over 170 nations and at least 40 international organisations are expected to take part.

The Expo will run from 1 May to 31 October 2010. More than 70 million people are expected to visit the expo site, which covers 5.28 square kilometres on the banks of the Huangpu River in central Shanghai.

DFAT – which has whole-of-government responsibility for Australia’s involvement in world expositions – is leading the expo project on behalf of the Australian Government in collaboration with other Commonwealth agencies, state and territory governments and private sector stakeholders.

Australia’s pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo will address the expo’s ‘Better City, Better Life’ theme by highlighting Australia’s strong and vibrant economy; our commitment to sustainable development; our technological expertise and innovation; our world-class research facilities and education system and our rich and diverse culture. It will also promote Australian cities, which are consistently ranked as among the most liveable in the world, as great places in which to study, live and work.
